Far from the Madding Crowd

We bought tickets to watch the Iowa Cubs' battle the Round Rock Express in the last game of the PCL Semifinals. We weren't alone, but it kind of felt that way.

Look at all those people waiting in line to buy food. I took this picture between the 3rd and 4th innings.

Here's what the stands looked like during the 5th.

The I-Cubs lost the first two games, and if they hadn't won on Friday night, it would have been all over. Maybe no one was planning that they'd make it to Sunday? It was also the kickoff for the NFL, so maybe that's why the stadium was a ghost town.

Either way, Char didn't care. She could put her feet up on the dugout, and no asked her to move so they could get out of the aisle.

That lack of a crowd didn't bother Daphne and I, either. We could not have asked for a better day. It was cloudy and 67 degrees. The was a slight breeze, and about every 20 minutes the clouds would part, and the sun would warm your back. With no one around, we could watch the game and talk as much as we wanted. Charlotte wasn't intimidated by other kids her age, so she sang and danced along with the songs blasting across the field.

There was also very little competition for foul balls. This one actually bounced into Daphne's lap. She barely had to move her hand to catch it.

The I-Cubs might have lost, but Char felt like she won.

We all felt that way, actually.
